Giving Back

Grandparents are special. For me, they have been guru, philosopher, powerhouse of wisdom, constant source of inspiration and epitome of compassion. I have been fortunate to have babuji’s (grandfather) presence in my life till the age of 40 and bai’s (grandmother) till last year. Not a single day goes without living by their teachings and values.

They often shared tales of our ancestors giving back to society, even when they lived a life of hardship with limited means.

Alongside relentless gau seva, community upliftment has always been family’s constant mission for generations – skilling young girls in the nearby bestis, supplying ration to homes for the orphans and elderly, education and financial aid to the lesser privileged, and donating to several social causes.

TB Foundation, named after my ancestors, was set up to further amplify our mission to give back to humanity. In recent times, the Foundation has aided several causes and individuals.

Education

My grandparents never went to school, yet adhyatmik interactions and conversations were their way of life. Grandma knew entire Gita, Sundarkand and other ancient scriptures by heart. She believed education, family values and skilling are more important for girl child than learning to cook or manage household chores. That’s how she raised my sister.

The most fascinating thing about her was yearning to learn something new, even in her 90s. That led me to the idea of setting up an education fund to support young girls, whose higher education is a challenge due to financial constraints.

Community Impact

We have been actively involved in heritage preservation. In our efforts towards contributing to this cause we uplifted an old Ghat by the Ganges at Rishikesh. As part of this initiative, we constructed a large shed for pilgrims, providing them with a comfortable space to rest and enjoy the Ganga Aarti and Darshan. This project blends the preservation of spiritual heritage with modern amenities, enhancing the pilgrimage experience while respecting the cultural significance of the sacred site.

Animal welfare

We also contribute to the cause of animal welfare and in doing so built a spacious shed, spanning 16000 sq. ft., to shelter 400 rescued cows at Deshnok, Rajasthan. This Gaushala provides a safe and comfortable environment for the cows, ensuring their well-being and protection. The initiative supports sustainable practices in rural communities.

Building community toilets

Our organisation extended financial support for building 8 toilets built in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur, for residents of Nachna, a village of Kharagpur I block of Paschim Medinipur located at a distance of about 8 km from IIT Kharagpur. Primarily because of lack of availability of water, none of the 55 tribal families residing at the village had access to a toilet.

A 2-toilet block that exists at the Shishu Shiksha Kendra (Primary School) of the village is also not in use for want of a water source nearby. The residents of the village had to rely on a water well of the Forestry Department located at a distance of some 2 kilometers from the village.

The initiative has transformed sanitation facilities for residents, ensuring better hygiene and dignity and has promoted healthier living conditions in the community.

Donating roti making machines

We also donated and installed advanced roti-making machines at Arya Kanya Sadan, an orphanage in Faridabad supporting over 250 girls, and at Swargashram Trust in Rishikesh, which serves meals to over 2,000 sadhus daily.

This initiative aims to streamline meal preparation, ensuring fresh, hygienic food is served efficiently. The effort underscores the organization’s commitment to supporting community welfare and empowering institutions catering to the lesser-privileged and spiritual communities.
